Hydropower
Hydropower plants convert the power of falling water into electric energy. World-wide, about 20% of all electricity is generated by hydropower. Canada is the largest producer followed by the United States. Norway produces more than 99% of its electricity with hydropower, and New Zealand 75%. Hydropower prevents the burning of 22 billion gallons of oil or 120 million tons of coal each year.
